    The Unit Clerk acts as receptionist for the assigned nursing unit. Responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties to support the nursing staff relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing units; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, nurse managers, and charge nurses.


    UNit Clerk essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


    • Perform various receptionist and clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing units
    • Maintenance tasks relating to chart order, chart accuracy, and chart current   data.
    • Keep all necessary lists and schedules.
    • Answer the telephone in a professional manner; direct calls to appropriate individuals, and/or take messages.
    • Greets and directs visitors to resident rooms
    • Directs family members and visitors to licensed staff (via telephone or in person) to answer questions or concerns regarding residents.
    • Fax and photocopy information and forms as needed.
    • Assists licensed staff in calls to family members
    • Documents or calls in-house communication requests (i.e. Housekeeping/Maintenance requests)
    • Communicates with all departments
    • Prepares and submits admission and discharge communication to Housekeeping
    • Delivers flowers, newspapers, packages and mail
    • Schedules barber/beauty appointments
    • Assists in making appointments for nursing residents; arranges transportation as needed; documents on Outlook appointment schedule
    • Orders supplies for the SNF and maintains par levels. Stock units with office and medical supplies weekly; prepare requisitions to maintain established inventories.
    • Utilizes a purchase order system and checks vouches on delivery of merchandise; signs off on receipt of merchandise; prepares and submits check request to process invoice
    • Maintains a current price list of supplies and prepares charge slips on a timely basis for resident supply utilization, utilizing electronic technology
    • Maintains a supply of appropriate forms and supplies at the nursing desk
    • Maintains the Nursing Supply, Central Supply and Hospitality Rooms in an orderly condition
    • Faxes, collects faxes and files lab reports, telephone/verbal orders, medical records, etc.
    • Files reports and orders on residents medical records
    • Sends dietary request to Dining Services (i.e., diet changes, admissions or discharges)
    • Maintains a supply of charts for new admissions
    • Assembles charts for new admissions





    Related ExperienceRequires excellent organizational skills. Must be able to deal with a range of ongoing tasks at the same time. Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization. Demonstrates commitment to continued professional growth and development. Basic clerical and computer skills.


    Education or Degree Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
