The Activities Manager is responsible to make a compelling difference in the lives of our residents through providing excellence and innovation in aging services. The Activities Manager is the program developer and leader for the sensory program, which directly relates to the care of our residents in the skilled nursing unit. It is their responsibility to implement best practices, as dictated by their therapeutic recreation degree, to ensure that residents receive quality care, as dictate by the mission and values of Wesley Enhanced Living.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary program developer and leader for the sensory program, to achieve the overall mission objectives to include planning, leading, and designing program events.
  • Support educational and entertainment program with ideas, resources, and research for creative and stimulating program offerings.
  • Assist with departmental administrative functions, including supervision of volunteers, junior and senior interns, maintenance of supplies and materials, maintaining program equipment; provides suggestions for additional program ideas
  • Directly oversea the assigned junior and senior interns for their field work and course work.
  • Direct service to residents including but not limited to:
      • Programming planning
      • Facilitation of small group activities (initiation, facilitation or supervision)
      • Individual coaching of residents
      • Resident assessment process,  as assigned
      • Special projects,  as assigned
  • Coaches residents to discover, develop and fulfill inner purpose through mentoring and facilitation of unique and enriching program opportunities representing the six dimensions of wellness: Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, Emotional, Occupational, and Physical
  • Facilitate group activities as noted on calendar of recreational activities; including discussion groups, culinary, craft, outings, etc.
  • Communicates opportunities throughout facility to residents, staff and family members; encourages resident participation and involvement
  • As directed by supervisor,  personally reaches out to each resident on recurrent basis; uses results of coaching methodology to identify individual needs and desires
  • Provide support to MDS assessment process, including completion of surveys and assessment documentation as requested
  • Provide transport to activities within building and on outings, as applicable
    • Ensure that all responsibilities are met to ensure that driver certification is current
  • Contribute to the Enhanced Living team initiatives as requested
  • Stay current with creative and vital aging research and resources, both locally and nationally, and within surrounding areas that may be of interest and value.
  • Be available to participate in and oversee special evening/weekend programs and outings.

Other responsibilities

  • Promotes and supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Wesley Enhanced Living.
  • Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all resident, employee-related and/or WEL operational information.
  • Supports WEL procedures and programs for:
        • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security
        • Reporting and/or correcting unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs
        • Reporting any workplace illness or injury immediately and ensuring compliance with the WEL policy on work related illness or injury
        • Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
        • Compliance with WEL’s policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior
        • Compliance with WEL’s “Drug Free Workplace” policy
        • Compliance with time and attendance policies
        • Ensuring that appearance and attire is appropriate and professional
  • Attends and completes required in-service training.
  • Attends seminars, conferences and in-house staff development programs to stay abreast of new methods and technologies as they relate to the position.
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings and general employee meetings.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.


Related Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as an Activity Aide in a senior living environment, or in educational environment.  Good organizational skills and flexibility required; may be responsible for evening and/or weekend activities.


Education or Degree Required: Bachelors of Science in Therapeutic Recreation


Licenses, Certifications Registrations: CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) 


Registrations: National Council for Therapeutic Recreations, American Therapeutic Recreation Association
