The Recreational Activities Coordinator develops and administers a comprehensive activity program that stimulates the interest and capabilities of Independent (IL) and Personal Care (PC) residents of the community. The Recreational Activities Coordinator is an energetic compassionate self-starter personality; develops programs; builds relationships to encourage participation; creative thinker with the ability to think outside the box.


Recreational Activities Coordinator essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coaches residents to discover, develop and fulfill inner purpose through mentoring and facilitation of unique and enriching program opportunities representing the six dimensions of wellness: Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, Emotional, Occupational, and Physical
  • Establishes method to personally reach out to each resident on recurrent basis; uses results of coaching methodology to identify individual needs and desires
  • Develop and administer comprehensive program opportunities, including recreational, educational and social activities
  • Identifies needs and activities for IL/PC residents and uses volunteers to develop and support robust program opportunities
  • Promotes intra-community collaboration to fortify the strength of programming across the continuum of care
  • Establishes collaborative relationship with community resources in development of innovative programming; plans trips and activities for IL and PC residents
  • Encourage resident participation and involvement in scheduled events; track resident participation and measure benchmarks as applicable
  • Participate in and support WEL Corporate Enhanced Living initiatives, including Signature events and Projects with a Purpose
  • Manage community budget allocations and provide input to budget preparation with supervisor, as applicable
  • Contribute to the Enhanced Living team initiatives
  • Time Management:
    • 25% of time is spent in planning and coordination activities to include but not limited to:
      • Programming planning
      • EL department meetings
      • Hiring and overseeing entertainment, trip arrangements, ordering supplies
      • Special projects as assigned
    • 75% of time is spent in direct service to residents including but not limited to:
      • Facilitation of small group activities (Initiation, Facilitation or Supervision)
      • Individual Coaching of Residents
      • Direct service to PC residents
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements WEL procedures and programs for:
    • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
    • Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data.
    • Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
    • Compliance with WEL’s “Drug Free Workplace” policy in order to provide a safe work environment.
    • Follow universal precautions and monitor staff performance of universal precautions.
    • Ensure the department and staff meet the “Enhanced Living Standards”
    • Attend and actively participate in department meetings.
  • Provide periodic reports as required.
  • Attends seminars, conferences and in-house staff development programs to stay abreast of new methods, programs and technologies Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.


Related Experience: Minimum 2 years experience as an Activity Coordinator


Education or Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation/related field required or certification


Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: CPR Certified
